Humanitarian Assistance

Providing essential support to victims of human rights violations in need.

ITJP is a founding organization of the Prosecutor for Prosecutor (PFP) Campaign, an initiative dedicated to rescuing and supporting prosecutors and justice professionals from Afghanistan facing persecution following the Taliban takeover.

Launched and led by the U.S. Association of Prosecuting Attorneys (APA-US) on July 27, 2023, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the PFP Campaign has been a lifeline for fellow prosecutors. Since seizing power, the Taliban has released thousands of criminals, including convicted terrorists from prisons and systematically targeted prosecutors and justice professionals trained under the Afghanistan’s republic government by the United States and the international community.

For the past two years, ITJP has worked alongside APA-US to provide essential assistance to the prosecutors who lost their jobs and were forced to flee to Pakistan under dire circumstances.

Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill leads other prosecutors from across the U.S. at a news conference in Salt Lake City announcing a fund to bring prosecutors and their families out of Afghanistan on Thursday, July 27, 2023.

HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE

During the past winter, ITJP extended emergency humanitarian aid to multiple prosecutors and justice personnels from Afghanistan who were fleeing Taliban persecution or facing severe threats. The Emergency Assistance Fund for Citizens of Afghanistan, active until March 30, 2024, was established to address urgent needs during the harsh winter months.

Building on these efforts, ITJP is now launching a second phase of humanitarian assistance for prosecutors from Afghanistan who have sought safety in Pakistan and are in the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP) pipeline. This program supports individuals with Travel Ready status, awaiting relocation to the United States. Assistance is provided on a case-by-case basis, reviewed continuously, and capped at $500 per month for a maximum duration of three months.
